VHT Special 6 Head and Cab vs Fender Deluxe 90 DSP

This is my latest demonstration video of my VHT Special 6 Head and 12-inch speaker Cab combination.  I am playing blues with a Backtrack I put together using Garage Band on my Macbook Pro.  The guitar is my Fender Deluxe Lone Star Stratocaster.  Check out the rich sounds from this low watt pure tube amp.  There are no pedals-- my guitar is plugged straight in.  I could have turned it up louder-- the guitar volume was on 4 out of 10.  There is still some breakup (tube distortion), which is what I am trying to achieve without distortion pedal or other sources.

Next, listen to the same blues riffs with backing tracks played on my strat this time through a solid state amp.  In a previous posting I talked about the settings I used with my humbucker pickup to get a blues tube-like sound.  This is the video I promised to demonstrate that.  I have the distortion drive switch on, with reverb turned on also.  Check out this cool tone for a solid state amp.  Very nice sound.

Which do your ears prefer, the more natural tube quality of the VHT, or the DSP effects of the Fender Solid State?  There is no right or wrong answer.  I enjoy both, for different reasons.  -- Guitar Man

Fender Champion 600 Tube Mod Recommendations

I found this great site that also has a very specific tube modding process recommendation all spelled out.  He also talks about the exact tubes he would put in right away.  Well, my new Fender Champ 600 has not arrived yet-- I expect it Friday-- but when it does I plan to play it first and then decide.

Akavalve has posted the following blog entree:

Addionally, I would like to offer this link for a recommended set of JJ tubes, presumably for an upgrade in overall sound and earlier breakup or distortion.

I will try these out first if I do change out the tubes.  Remember, mine is used but mint and has had the capacitor tone stack replaced and a new Weber Alnico 6 inch speaker installed.  Adding the tubes will just about finish the job!!!

Can't wait to review the amp.  -- Guitar Man
